A walk along the promenade at Heysham

We went for a walk along the prom at Heysham today as it was such a gorgeous day.This is a view towards the village and church. In the ruins of St Patrick's chapel are several viking graves
We didn't go as far as that on this walk, maybe next time.
The tide was just coming in and it was very peaceful. Not as many visitors as Morecambe which suited us.


Lots of rock pools
Lovely and clear.
The ash has buds on it as well as keys.
Rosa rugosa is still in flower
Part of the beach is giant slabs of sandstone with interesting patterns on it.
Sea holly aptly growing here.
Imagine the number of tides there must have been to wear the sandstone like this.
Almost spring green on some of the trees,
I love this mix of new flowers and giant hips

Some looked like baby tomatoes.
Some like giant cherries.

The path is perfect for both wheelchairs and prams.

It was a lovely mixture of bare branches and fresh growth.
Now these fungi were on our front garden this morning when we woke up.
I love the dew on the grass

There were also still flowers to be seen, looks like Mr Mog will need to cut the grass at least once more before winter.

More from the seadrift mohair and current socks progress

All sorts today, this is the first post of two. Current sock progress and yes you will notice I have 3 different socks on the needles for some reason:) This yarn is Trekking gifted by Otivia for the hospice socks appeal. Truly autumnal colours aren't they?
This gorgeous yarn was dyed by Rosie with koolaid and is so vivid it lightens up the dark days.


This is a mixture of some opal I think mixed with a patons purple heather that Cecelia gave me when we visited. I love the mixture and it will make warm socks as there are 2 strands to knit with.



Then I decided to see what I could make with the remains of the mohair. Here you see a medium moebius cowl
Here a smaller one. Both done in 2x2 rib. 5mm Knitpicks harmony circular needles.

Still have this much yarn left, which I think may make a pair of wristlets. Watch this space.
Lydia decided to try the cowls for size.
I think they will be lovely and warm for someone for the winter don't you?


They even kept her bare head warm:)
I've got my last skein of mohair in the dye pot together with 2 skeins of merino. 1 sock weight 1 DK.

My sea shawl is finished:) I decided to go with a crochet freeform approach to cast off. That is I didn't plan or work anything out I let the hook dictate:)
I think it looks very different and OOAK. What do you say?
The broomsticks gave it a once over

Yarn Kid mohair from Bluefaced.com, hand dyed by me with procion dyes.
Needles 8mm harmony options circular and 7mm crochet hook.
Size very large
Recipient, as yet unknown.
I'm ready to cast on with the autumnal mohair I dyed at Artis Annes. But I do have enough of the sea mohair to make a moebius cowl and most probably fingerless mittens so I think that may come first.

Finished My october socks, more knitting and boo to V*rG*N

Finished my October brown socks for the solid sock KAL. Yarn BFL hand dyed by me and used double for warm socks for the hospice:)

Also made a calorimetry in medium size for a gift probably. Now need to make me one.

When we came home from my DDs we went up to catch the last of the sunset and the moon.
First time I've seen the moon properly this month with all the rain and cloudy skies.
Can't access emails bl%%dy Virgin are down again:( Couldn't even get online from yesterday afternoon until this morning as the router and Internet were also down. Such is life and in the scheme of things it isn't too bad. I've almost finished my seafoam shawl. I'm busy making the edging up as I go with a crochet hook. I think it will look ok when finished.
I wanted to do a rant on the present financial stuff but decided that as I had a headache to start with it wasn't worth it.

My first October socks. Started 1st October, finished 3rd October. Yarn gifted by Artis Anne, fyberspates DK
Really quick knit with these and I love them. They fit me perfectly:) Nice to make a pair for me and thank you Anne for the yarn.
This is the mohair I purchased from Andy at Chester on Sunday, dyed at Annes Tuesday morning. I love the colours even though the peachy colour was supposed to be deep brown. Think I need to refine my dyeing techniques for mohair.
These lovelies are the hospice socks. Yarn is from Cecelia as is the pattern. These knit up really quickly also as they are DK. I do love the colours.
I'm still enjoying doing the eye of partridge heel.

We picked up these in the charity shop the other day.
This is quite large, around 4inch diameter, I presume for sock darning?
Then there was this, not sure what it is but the wood is so rich.
It is pouring down today and blowing a gale. Not a day for out door pursuits so maybe some elemental making? We shall see

Going pink for October

You will notice a different template to the blog. This is because it is October and Breast cancer awareness month and therefore I'm going pink in honour of it. Hopefully to remind people to check their breasts regularily. Lets try and prevent as much cancer as we can ok?
