The musings and meanderings of a mixed media artist and yarn junkie who loves to knit, spin, crochet, make a mess, write and enjoy life. I try to follow the wheel of the year and enjoy each day of it. My art reflects that spiritual journey.

Frost but no snow and lace????
some pictures from the woodland walk across the road. We had quite a lot of ice and every where was so crisp and fabulous views. I'm having a go at the candle flame scarf from knitpicks as it has written instructions. Its for my imbolc shawl. I'm using a lovely green for it that reminds me of new growth pushing up through snow. Pictures when I have something to show.
A question, how do you folks ma rk your page to enable you to see the line of pattern you are following? I used to have something that slid across like aruler with a space but can't find it. Have googled but obviously not using the right search terms as I don't know what the darn things are called.
Also all hints on patterns with written instructions for shawls, scarves gratefully received. They can have charts but need to have it written down also. I got victorian lace today but sadly its all charts so it will be being sold on. I wish publishers/designers would give the choice of charts and written for those of us challenged with the little squares:)

Hi from your Hospice KAL buddy. I've actually made a post on the blog and thought I'd let you know. I'll be more faithful now. I'm getting the blogging habit.
Hi Amber, loving the photos as usual! I have tablets of index notecard size yellow post-its (actually an 'off' brand but they work just fine) I just keep moving the 'post-it' paper from line to line, I also have a small tablet of paper that I'll pre-write the line numbers and when I finish a line I'll mark through the number.....so, if it's a pattern that has 12 rows I number 1 through 12 all down a page, I know it sounds lame but I'm such a ditz head....plus that yellow post-it paper might get moved from the chart/instructions and then I'd be whacking myself upside the head you can believe it.
I love the pictures - much nicer than our 3 feet of snow.
I have no idea what the ruler things are called, but, until you find one, would a sticky-note work as a substitute?
Hi, don't dump the victorian lace book yet. When mine arrives I will be converting charts to written so could send you them as I do it.
Alternatively there is a fab chart reading info here:

Hi Amber, Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I know all about that business of kissing the toads before finding the prince :) I just never have any idea as to when Bobby will up and do something like that, makes is all the more fun in my book. I read 'the spindling scot' comment, how wonderfully nice is that! I'd say keep hold of that book. I'm hearing rave reviews about it all over Knitbloglandia.
Hi there & thanks for your post on my blog. I have that lace book and I can relate re reading charts and as for me I think if they were larger I could cope better BUT I am determined to have a go at one of them at least as I love them and have bought some lace weight yarn already . Think it may be a daylight job though . Hang in there at least for a while; we might find a solution :)

Lovely photos. I use a magnetic board with magnets, of course, and a magnifying magnet to keep track of the pattern. I have my mom's from the 60's and one I purchased from a box store (michaels, hobby lobby, joanns - can't remember which) and they are both by the same company, LoRan. I have taped the two boards together using velcro at the top and then across the bottom with an extension of 6" of velco tape, so it is a triangle shape, holds the pattern well and folds up to fit in my bag.
I'm quite chart challenged myself--I try them occasionally and always end up having a small to medium tantrum. For keeping track of the line, I use highlighter tape. It's see-through tape in bright colors that sticks and peels off like a post it. You can get it pretty narrow so that it just sits on the line you're knitting and you can see through it to the directions. I swear by that stuff. Try a google search for it; if you can't find it, I can try to send you some.
What you're after is a copy or document holder - we just bought one from Staples the other day. http://www.staples.co.uk.
